4 Reasons to Select Smart Hands & Minds Tutoring
What happens when...
…students are given the power to control how and what they study?
My teaching philosophy engages students so that they become motivated and confident to do their best in whatever they pursue. I work with them every step of the way to develop and implement a personalized curriculum that is best suited to their personalities, goals, and learning styles.
Here are four ways I help students thrive by using an approach focused on their growth and success:
Multiple Subjects, Multiple Skills
Develop 21st Century Skills for Success in a Modern World.
Music. Soccer. Chess. Language Arts.
What’s the connection between these subjects?
Studying any subject requires learning:
Hard skills: skills specific to the subject, and
Soft skills: skills that can be applied across the board, such as critical and creative thinking, discipline, perseverance, and leadership.
These, along with others, make up “21st century skills” that enable students to succeed in the work environment.
Build Confidence through a Lifelong Love for Learning.
When students study different subjects simultaneously, their interest and motivation increases. Students strive to do better in their studies as they become confident, independent, and lifelong learners.
By studying multiple subjects with me, students not only become skilled readers and writers, pianists, chess and soccer players, but, most importantly, by learning how to learn, they become well-rounded individuals prepared for life-long success.
Collaborative & Empowering
Students are equal educational partners.
During our first meeting, I listen to students (and parents) as they share their goals and backgrounds. We based on their interests, personalities, and learning styles.
Students select their homework.
I empower students by providing them options for homework tailored to their experience level, age, and available time for practice.
Students are geared towards independence.
Rather than merely answering their questions, I help students find the answers themselves, increasing their confidence in themselves and their abilities.
Students are supported in their learning journeys.
I support students as they navigate their learning by regularly checking in and working with them and their families to assess their progress, the strategies they are using to help themselves in their learning, and any difficult points they may be encountering.
Convenient & Safe
Flexible.
Flexibility can be empowering. Based on your preferences and needs, I offer multiple options, such as, in home tutoring, remote learning, and coordinated schedules and assignments, so that your student can access quality educational support as conveniently and comfortably as possible.
One interview for multiple disciplines.
Through one zoom call, I assess students for their strengths and weaknesses in each subject; saving you commute time and the need to schedule multiple interviews for multiple subjects.
Reliable and Respected.
Students and parents can rest assured that they have found a reliable and experienced tutor with great expertise in each of the subjects offered, and who has an excellent reputation. As a in the Bay Area, I have passed a background check from a leading tutoring agency and private school in the area.
A Holistic Approach to Personalized Learning
Psychology Background.
Having a background in psychology helps me identify potential obstacles that can detract from a student’s learning and general well-being. Designing lessons that reflect their unique home and school environments, personalities, and experiences has enhanced my students’ motivation, engagement, and self-esteem.
If students feel stuck, overwhelmed, or simply need a break from one subject, say piano, we can temporarily switch gears and rebuild our energy by turning to another subject, such as chess.
Observing students’ unique personalities and learning styles and then implementing personalized teaching strategies builds bonding and trust. This can then motivate students to step out of their comfort zone, build confidence, and pursue learning in all contexts.
